KOEP ASSAULTED BY ERRANT BALL

(Champlin, MN) 5/16/09 - Elm Creek Shortstop Christa Koep was hammered by a bad-hop ball in bottom of the 1st off the bat of The Hustler's #10- the 8th batter in their lineup that mashed her throwing hand into a fleshy pile of rubble.

With 2 out and a runner on first, #10 smashed a worm-burner between Koep and 2nd base. Koep maneuvered to grab the ball and get the force at 2nd to end the inning.

Instead of being able to make the play, the second bounce of the ball found a boulder of the type that frequents Clyde Andrews infields that turned the projectile into a missile aimed at Koep's tea-drinking, Miss Manners pinky finger on her right hand.

To say that her hand was injured would be rather unsummational, as she fell into a pain induced clump on the ground at her position as the runners advanced. The inning ended with the next batter striking out and #12 returned to the dugout.

Koep sat out only an inning or two, guarding her now lobster-claw sized right mitt to avoid futher injury.

A splint was added and the gritty, young shortstop continued to play the tournament with seeming panache and etiquette with her right pinky raised high in the air as she later turned a 6-3-2 double play against Burnsville.

Koep's only request was, "Do you have any more Aspercreme?"

BERNIE'S CREEK NOTES:

(On The Banks of Elm Creek, MN) - With a sizeable lead in a Softball Mania tournament game, Bernie instructs the players to take just one base at a time as not to run up the score.  With a runner on first, the next Elm Creek batter bloops a hit into right center. Base coaches Ron and Pete send both runners for extra bases. Bernie remarks, "I guess they didn't get the memo."

RICHFIELD INVITATIONAL:
6/13-14/09
ELM CREEK TAKES 1ST PLACE
WITH 7-6 COMEBACK VICTORY
OVER BURNSVILLE!

(Richfield, MN) 6/14/09 - On a day when Elm Creek seemed to be losing more players to flu-like symptoms  than they were scoring runs, the girls managed to scrape enough energy and hits together to win the Richfield Summer Classic Tournament with a come-from-behind 7-6, bottom-of-the-7th inning 7-6 victory over the Burnsville 16s.

Last year Elm Creek came in 2nd after a deflating 15-5 loss at the hands of the Richfield BP Amoco team.

Elm Creek won 5 games in-a-row between Saturday and Sunday to win the event, including 10-run wins over the North St. Paul Hustlers15-3, and Butch's Beasts 16-5 on Saturday.

Sunday, under the best weather Elm Creek has seen this year, the Sioux Falls Twisters took an early 3-2 lead after two innings. The girls posted a 6-spot in the top of the third to take an 8-3 lead then they never looked back, winning 14-5 to go 3 & 0 in open play.

In the semi-final, Hels Angels took a 3 to 1 lead in the lower half of the 5th, stringing together 3 of their total 7 hits to post 2 runs in the frame.

The Creek scratched out 4 runs in the top of the 6th, added another in the 7th and held on to win 6-4 to advance to the championship.

A fancy 3-run rally in the bottom of the 6th in the championship tied up the game 6-6.

A stunning double-play in the top of the 7th squashed a scoring bid by the Burnsville squad that opened the door for the win in the bottom of the 7th for the Creek.
